How to get more Google reviews (without chasing your customers)
Updated 22 October 2026
How to get more Google reviews comes down to three things: ask every customer, at the moment they are most likely to say yes, and make it a single tap. What you can’t do is pay for reviews, offer a discount or a gift in exchange, or ask only the customers you know were happy: Google rules out all three. Below, when and how to ask, for restaurants, hotels and shops.

Telaio: an app of your own, from €59 a month
Your own app, with your name, logo and colours, on your customers’ phones. They install it by scanning a QR code: ten seconds, no App Store, no account.
- A model for every trade: restaurant, bar, hotel, B&B and mountain hut, winery, shop and seller
- Offers and a digital loyalty card that count by themselves
- Notifications, scheduled if you like, to people who said yes
- Eight languages, and it works offline
- Live the same day, and you update it from your phone

Ask at the right moment
Ask while the experience is still fresh: in a restaurant, as people pay or the next morning; in a hotel, on the day they leave; in a shop, at the till or with the delivery. A request that arrives three weeks later gets ignored.
Make it a single tap
Google lets you share a link, or a QR code, that opens your review form directly. Put the QR on the table, at the front desk or by the till, and send the link in your messages. Every extra step between the request and the review loses people.
Ask everyone, the same way
Don’t ask first whether people were happy and then send only the happy ones to Google. Google’s guidelines don’t allow selectively soliciting positive reviews, and Tripadvisor asks businesses to invite all their customers. Reviews from everyone are the ones readers believe.
No gifts, no discounts, no paid reviews
Google’s rules for reviews on Maps ban content written in exchange for payment, discounts, free goods or services, and Tripadvisor allows no incentive of any kind. That includes the free coffee for a five-star review. Reviews that break the rules can be removed.
Reply to every review
Reply to the good ones with a line of thanks, and to the bad ones calmly, with the facts. People choosing where to go read your replies as much as the reviews. Your Google Business Profile lets you reply for free.
How to get more hotel reviews
In a hotel the best moment is the day of departure, while the stay is still fresh. With Telaio, from the day they leave a banner on the guest’s Home asks for the review, and if you switch it on, the next morning a message takes them with one tap to your page on Google or Tripadvisor: it reaches guests who entered the dates of their stay in the app and have notifications on. Everyone is asked the same way, with nothing in return.
Who already does it
Hotel Cesare Augusto, Hotel Lido Bibione Beach and Hotel Principe in Bibione, Hotel Fontana and Cèsa Planber in Val di Fassa, and Rifugio Alpino Vallorch in Pian del Cansiglio have this in their own app. It is the simplest answer to how to get more Google reviews without chasing anyone.
